Celebrate Recovery: In the Space on Fridays

I wanted to share an update about our Celebrate Recovery ministry.  As you know, Celebrate Recovery is a Christ centered 12-Step program for hurts, habits and hangups.  We have step groups throughout the week and we meet on Fridays for dinner, worship, a teaching or testimony, sharing groups focused on a specific hurt, habit or hangup and then coffee and fellowship.  During Pastor Rick's sabbatical, I took on the role of Interim Director of Celebrate Recovery in his absence.  As the director, I provide a connection to staff resources for the ministry leaders.

Dan and Lynn Rouleau approached me with some ideas on how to improve Celebrate Recovery.  They had taken a courageous look at the needs of the program, what was working, what was not; what was core and what was peripheral.  Pastor Rick and I discussed it and agreed that they had great ideas.  These changes will allow more of the Celebrate Recovery leaders to concentrate directly on recovery ministry.

The first change is that we have moved our Friday night dinners, worship and teaching time into the old sanctuary (The Space).  This simplifies the technical aspects of running the meeting, thus freeing time for the tech crew.  It also means that dinner and worship will be in the same Space.  Thus only one room needs to be set up.  Also, the atmosphere will be more conducive to fellowship and relationship building.

The second change is that we are going to order in pizza instead of preparing meals in the Wellspring kitchen. This frees the entire kitchen crew for other things.  This should bolster our Celebrate Kids program as well as create the possibility of a new women's group on Friday night.  Another benefit of this is to have a consistent price for dinner week to week.

Finally, I just want to take the opportunity to say that I'm incredibly blessed to be counted among the whole Celebrate Recovery ministry team.  These months have given me insight into the level of commitment every team member has.  Their hearts are truly for recovery!
