It's not too late to help out at Celebrate Mount Pleasant 2011

It's not too late to help out at Celebrate Mount Pleasant on Saturday, June 4th......below is all the information you will need to know if you plan on coming.....hope to see you there!

Heres a link to parking from Wellspring...         maps.google.com/maps

First I want to thank you all for volunteering your time on June 4th (Sat) to help with the 3rd annual “Celebrate Mount Pleasant”. We are looking for our actions to show Gods love & (with prayer) bring hope to this community and to the City of New Britain. I am truly looking forward to working with you all & watching God at work.

The following is all the logistics of the day…..(I know it’s a lot, but all is important information)

I am asking that all volunteers be at Mt Pleasant at 7:45am on Saturday, June 4th. Parking will be at the end of Leo St. which is off of Corbin Ave 3 streets past Stop n Shop on the right or in the Stop n Shop plaza then walk up 2 streets to Richard St and walk to the end. The day will last until about 4ish. There is a link at the bottom for directions from Wellspring.

When you arrive please check in at the pop up tent marked “volunteer & resident check in”. There we will give you directions to where your project is taking place, get you a T-shirt, if you haven’t picked one up already and any other info you might need.

New this year, there will be a $5 charge for your T-shirt when you pick it up. This is to help off set some of the many costs of this event (there will not be a charge for residents). We have also arranged times that you may pick up your T-shirt the week before. Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday from 5pm-7pm at Wellspring in the loft. Just see Teresa Burkes.

All projects will be going on throughout the day. At anytime if you feel uncomfortable or unsafe about doing a particular project, please let your designated leader know so we can make other arrangements.

  • We start at 8am with prayer and misc info to get us started.
  • There will be a basketball clinic going on for the kids by The University of Hartford. (if you are able to bring a basketball to donate to one of the kids, that would be wonderful. Either regular size or youth size is fine)
  • There will be a BBQ style lunch served around noonish.
  • Big L will do their presentation with the kids.
  • Clean up of all projects should begin at 3pm to ensure we are done by 4pm. (please leave your area better then you found.)

The biggest item to keep in mind throughout the day is keeping focused on why we are at Mt Pleasant. It’s to bring Hope. That means we want to interact with the residents, not take over. If there is someone who wants to help in a project, by all means let them. The more residents that come out and take an active role in beautifying their community the more ownership & hope we can bring. We will have the “volunteer & resident check in” point where residents can find out where they can help located at the end of Richard St. If you see someone just standing there looking like they want to help, but may not know how to ask….ask them. It could be as simple as “excuse me, can you hand me that shovel” or “do want to give me a hand”. If they do not want to then let it be, we are not there to push, but to pull.

Please make sure that any tools you bring with you are well marked with your name to ensure they go back home with you. Mt. Pleasant is a very large area, so it helps to keep track of your stuff. During clean up time (3pm), please bring all tools that are not yours to the area around the sign up tent. There you can find your own items as well.

Also remember to pray for this event during this week. Not just that it will be safe, smooth & good weather, but that Gods all powerful Spirit will come into this community and continue to transform it in a way that He sees fit. This is Gods show & what we do is all because of Him & for Him. It is for His Glory not ours & for the ones He loves.

Lastly, I will be sending out another email on what projects you will be working on as well as who your designated leader will be.  I would suggest for any of the projects to bring your own gloves, grungy work cloths, sun screen, etc... as well as any tools that might be used on your particular project. I will have a full list on the assignments email on what tools we will be looking for..... Oh & don’t forget your elbow grease!

I want to thank you all again for donating your time. If you have any question or concerns at all please feel to contact me or your designated leader.

Looking forward to a Spirit filled day,

God Bless & in the Spirit,

Chris Knapp
