Lincoln School Mentor Training

Wellspring of Hope
Tutoring and Mentoring

As I reflect on our previous school year, It is time again to think about the preparation of a new year. Just a few weeks ago we were all preparing for the pending fury of hurricane Irene. Days were spent in thoughtful preparation based on information that was delivered through the media and our own knowledge of previous storms. We all remained hopeful for a positive outcome. Hope as always is an extremely important part of the human experience.

The ministry of Wellspring of Hope reaches out to the City and people of New Britain in ways that help to empower them and to give them a new HOPE. Our call continues to be the transformation of the city. The tutoring and mentoring portion of this program is now in it's 4th year at Lincoln Elementary School and we will also be starting the after school program at Mt. Pleasant this fall.

We have been blessed with an administration that works alongside us each year to create improvements with the hope of increased results that directly impact the children. Currently we mentor 18 children on a weekly basis at the school.
A prayer group has been meeting on Thurs. mornings alongside willing staff to lift up the concerns of the school.
A resource room has been beautifully organized with reading material categorized for the children's reading levels. This has given us a space to function out of more effectively.

Like the preparation before a storm, we have continued to workout the challenges that each year brings, anticipating a positive outcome. With that said our storms have been more like “sun-showers” or should I say “Son-showers” With thoughtful solutions there is always a rainbow that gives us a reason to Praise our Lord Jesus Christ and the Spirit who guides us and keeps us moving forward.

So why do all this? It is to bring Hope to a struggling educational system. It is to speak life and encouragement into a child. It is to create a model that works and gets results so it can be repeated in other schools throughout the city. In other words “A transformation of the City.” A worthwhile calling that will hopefully effect a generation and those that follow.

On Sept. 23rd I, along with others will be attending the Faith, Families and Schools Conference. This is a State sponsored conference and it's title says it all. We have been asked to present our ministry as a model for those that would be interested in doing the same. This is our second year participating and a huge opportunity to increase the Kingdom in our schools.

Join the team of Wellspring through the outreach ministry of Wellspring of Hope.

On Sat. Oct. 1st. From 8:30-12:00 we will have our next training class held here at church. Our need would be to have 20 new mentors join in on the in-school or after-school programs. This training is a requirement and is done in a relaxed and comfortable format. I already have a vision of a positive outcome full of blessings. So come join us and be blessed as you bless others.
