Membership Class - Sunday, February 12

A couple weeks ago, I ran into an old friend who had just taken a new job at a church down south.  Curious about his new digs, I asked about the church.  Naturally, he proceeded to tell me about the church's denominational background and demographics.  I asked the size of the congregation and he quoted me two numbers -- their weekly attendance and their rolls.

Rolls.  Now there's a word I hadn't considered in some time.  Of course, the rolls are simply the lists of formal members of the church.  I had forgotten that at many churches, this is a very significant list, and that it may often contain names of individuals who may not have attended the church in years.  I had forgotten about the concept primarily because we don't particularly use it at Wellspring.

We do, however, maintain a membership at Wellspring, even if it's not as formal as in other places.  At its core, membership is about mutual commitment.  Membership is when you as an individual emphatically say "Yes!" to the movement of Christ as expressed at Wellspring.  In response, Wellspring, its staff, elders, and body say "Yes!" to you.  We are all going after our pursuit of God's purposes on the earth together and membership is a meaningful way to make that declaration.

The process for membership at Wellspring is reasonably simple.  It begins with a brief class at 1:00 pm, Sunday, February 12, in which we want to get to know a bit about your journey.  What brought you to Wellspring?  What attracted you?  Why become a member?  We want to know something about your dreams and passions.  And we want to be able share more with you just where Wellspring is heading, the church's dreams and passions.

Register now.  Or, if you have questions, please contact Sandy in the office (sandy@wellspring.net, 860.225.0661).

See you there!
