New LifeGroup Forming: Irresistible Revolution
This study coincides perfectly with the "radical" preaching series that is taking place during October and November. Those who join this group will be challenged in many areas as the concepts of culture, social justice, and true discipleship interact with each other. If you have been looking for an opportunity to dialogue about "issues" of the day and how we should be affecting them with the love of God, this is an excellent place to start.

"I wondered if there were other restless people asking the question with me: What if Jesus meant the stuff he said?" Shane Claiborne has a way with words, and simply states thoughts that we as Christians can easily adopt. Love is a running theme throughout the book Irresistible Revolution, as is the idea of being what he calls an "ordinary radical".
Claiborne defines an ordinary radical as someone who gets "down to the roots of what it means to be Christian disciples." He goes on to clarify:
Most of the time...I think that if what we are doing seems radical, then that says more about the apathy of Western Christianity than about the true nature of our discipleship. And this is why "radical" has to be coupled with "ordinary." Our way of life was typical in the days of the early Jesus movement. We are like the Marys and Marthas, and Peter's family -- houses of hospitality, which was the standard call of the early Christians, who abandoned their personal possessions to a new family. This is to say nothing of the countless others who gave up everything and left their homes with no money or food or even sandals to follow Jesus. Christendom seems very unprepared for people who take the gospel that seriously.
This book makes you see things a little more simply. Throughout the weeks it takes to read the book, I think some great positive discussion could be had about missions within our church, community, America as a whole, and internationally. The book touches all topics, and proves to show that spreading the love of God, and living kindly, and radically as Jesus did is really easier than it seems. As the description of the book stated, Shane writes his words about an authentic faith rooted in belief, action, and love, and invites us into a movement of the Spirit that begins inside each of us and extends into a broken world.
Through the time it took me to read the book, I was also able to dive into the Word. This, in turn stirred passions in my heart, and gave me fresh eyes that were able to view the atmosphere surrounding us. I invite you to join this book group, enjoy conversation, and the things that God will bless us with.
