Student Ministry News!

Last Wednesday, we had a wonderful testimony from Eric W.  Eric shared very clearly the importance that following after Christ has had in his life and how the decision to be "sold out" for God gave clarity, purpose, and direction for him. Eric is an excellent example for our students to follow. Our students were encouraged by and could relate to his journey.

During worship time, I was struck by the song "Show Me Your Glory."  It starts out with a phrase, "I see the cloud, I step in." This comes from the story of Moses at Mount Sinai. It was there that the Lord showed up and covered the mountain in a cloud. There was thunder and lightning and the mountain shook. He wanted to speak to the nation of Israel to instruct them from His own mouth on how to become children of the King and move out of slavery. Although there was a clear border around the mountain, God wanted His people to be near Him.
But the glory and power of God made the people very nervous, and they moved miles away. They sent Moses in the cloud and told him to come back with the instructions of God.

The words to the song struck me because they are declaring a desire to do what Moses did, to come to the cloud, to enter in, to be overwhelmed by God's glory. A willingness to step into what God has to offer is a symbol of humility and submission that you will allow the presence of God and His love to radically change you. God's glory is seen in His goodness and heard in His words. He wanted His people to be changed by His glory and His words. I believe many of us react to God's glory the same way the Israelites did. We move far away, where the words won't be heard and the glory won't be quite as overwhelming. We want someone else to bring those words to us because we can ignore a person a lot easier than we can ignore the glory and power of God.

I want to encourage everyone that God's goodness, God's glory, and God's word will change your life. The change that God brings is from slavery to sonship. God doesn't show up with power in order to freak you out, but to give you confidence that what He brings is greater than anything this world has to offer. God wants you to know that when you run to the cloud and see His glory and hear His words, not only will you be changed, but you will carry the ability to change the world around you.

It's a good song - may it be true for you as well.
