Wellspring of Hope: Tutoring & Mentoring

As we are winding down the days of summer and the new school year is here we are excited to start our 3rd year at Lincoln School in New Britain. This ministry of outreach into the city of New Britain continues to grow. The needs are always there but the Lord's love for the children shines through the many team members who usher in hope.

 

We are also witnessing answered prayer in the Mt. Pleasant neighborhood where our Big L program continues to bring God's word to the families that live there. Starting this fall, an after school program will be starting in the community center, along with an IT program for the adults. Judy Davis has been called to coordinate the after school program along with a resident who will partner with her. This will run from 3:00- 6:30. For those that may feel called into this area of service as a mentor, tutor, crafts person, and/or snack preparations, please contact Judy. The hours are flexible and can be adjusted to your schedule during this time frame. They will start the program one day a week with a vision of increase.

 

Our 3rd year at Lincoln school will include 1st - 3rd grade. Each team member will meet with one child, for one hour, once a week for the school year. The focus is to improve math and reading skills along with building strong mentor relationships. We look forward to partnering with administrators, teachers, parents and students.

 

In June a training class was held at Wellspring for this program. If you have taken this class and have not turned in your application please do so by Sept 12th, as we will need to process information to the school. This can be dropped off at the Welcome Center or given to Linda Briggs. We will also hold another class in Nov. (to be announced) for those interested in joining this program of bringing hope to a small child.
