Wellspring of Hope: Tutoring & Mentoring

A new year has arrived once again and we all can agree how time just seems to fly by. I often ponder this all so true occurrence and wonder why it is so. Many including myself will say, “ the older you get the faster it goes.” I do know the busier we get the faster it goes also, as many much younger than myself seem to have the same sentiment.
 

This has caused me to reflect on how my time is spent and how balanced my life is thus far. We all have family and friends, work obligations which include both home and vocation filling our time. Hopefully we all can fit a recreation element in and some travel in as well. We as Christians serve in various areas of particular giftings that bring another form of Joy into our lives. I believe the joy becomes most evident when we walk out our faith with the Spirit of Christ in our hearts regardless of what our time is spent on.
 

I have along with others the great privilege of spending 1 hour of that time mentoring a child at Lincoln School. Our mentoring program is in it's 3rd year and has gained great favor within the school and reflects the love of God in a very tangible way. We currently have 16 mentors that touch the lives of these school children. It seems that the numbers are not that important until you realize we have a long list of other children that need a mentor to help them realize their value and abilities.
 

We also have a new opportunity that is being birthed “after school” at the community center in Mt. Pleasant. This is an exciting time to get involved for those that are available later in the day.
 

On Sat. January 15th we will hold our next training class for those interested in becoming part of this vibrant ministry. It will be held here at Wellspring from 8:30- 12:00. with a light breakfast served for your convenience. This class will give you the information to help you make a more informed decision regarding your fit. It does not obligate you but will be necessary to become a mentor in either the school day or after school program.
